UCalgary Campus

University for high school students

Are you a high-achieving student ready to take on university courses? The Dual Credit or Young Scientist program may be the challenge you’re looking for.

Dual Credit

Earning high school and post-secondary credit at the same time!

UCalgary offers several dual credit courses, allowing current high school students to take university-level courses (without paying tuition) - and earn credit towards university and their high school diploma at the same time. Dual Credit students have support from their high school as well as from their UCalgary instructors as they embark on their postsecondary education. Taking a university course with this extra support can help to ease the transition from high school as they jumpstart their postsecondary studies.

Dual Credit Partnerships

Dual credit opportunities are arranged and supported through individual schools and school boards. Our current dual credit partnerships in Calgary and the surrounding area include:

Students and parents interested in dual credit programming, please connect with your school.

Dual Credit Students

Experiencing life as a UCalgary student!

Students must first apply for dual credit programs through their high schools and those who are selected will receive detailed information about how to register for their UCalgary dual credit course.

Dual Credit Courses

The University of Calgary offers several different in-person and online dual credit courses, including:

Some of our Dual Credit courses have pre-requisites (for example, Mathematics 265), but many do not. This ensures that students with a variety of interests, passions, and completed high school courses can access Dual Credit at UCalgary. Course offerings vary from year to year, depending on interest and sponsorship from our partner high schools.

Applying to UCalgary After Taking a Dual Credit Course

Many of our dual credit students subsequently apply for admission to UCalgary degree programs. For admission purposes, all dual credit courses are accepted as approved options for admission

Dual Credit students are still considered high school applicants for admission as long as they haven’t completed more than 30 units at a post-secondary institution. Students who have completed more than 30 units will be considered transfer students.

Young Scientist Program

To be considered for the Young Scientist Program, you must be recommended by the department you wish to study in. Please contact the department you are interested in. Once approved, they will send you the application information.
