Biography
Naomi Venantius is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Calgary. Alongside her studies, she has found her involvement with the Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) to be both intellectually and personally rewarding. Through her work with a diverse community of advocates and allies, Naomi has gained a deeper understanding of systemic issues and the power of collective action, while developing key leadership and organizational skills.
Naomi is an invaluable member of the WRC. She puts her heart into everything she does, fully committing to her work and consistently going above and beyond expectations. Reliable and dependable, Naomi is always the first to offer help when needed, and her caring, humble, and diligent nature has made her an essential part of the team. Her proactive attitude and thoughtful approach leave a lasting impact on every initiative she supports.
As a member of the Events and Volunteer Engagement Team, Naomi has played an important role in organizing team-building events at the university, gaining valuable experience in strategic planning and collaboration. Notable projects include the Ask First campaign, which addresses social norms that contribute to gender-based violence, and the Who Needs Feminism initiative, which fosters crucial conversations about gender inequities. These experiences have shown Naomi the importance of advocacy within both academic and broader social contexts.
Naomi has also contributed to wellness-focused programming, including Spa Day, a program designed to promote mental health awareness and self-care among students. Recognizing the pressures of academic life, she helped create a space where students could focus on their well-being, reinforcing her belief in the positive impact of community-centered initiatives.
In addition to large-scale projects, Naomi values the day-to-day responsibilities at WRC that have deepened her commitment to social justice.
