Actors Harold Perrineau, Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, and The Best Man director Malcolm D. Lee have reunited for a new venture — Sable Bourbon, a premium spirit inspired by their long-standing friendship and collaborative history on screen. The bourbon’s creation emerged from Perrineau’s interest in continuing their camaraderie and working relationship beyond the recent The Best Man: The Final Chapters series.

Perrineau, who played Julian “Murch” Murchison, discovered Bespoken, an earth-conscious spirit maker known for its sustainable methods, and saw potential in creating a unique product with his castmates. “I didn’t want to stop working with them,” he shares, recounting how he rallied the group. Lee and Chestnut were immediately on board, while Diggs, who tends to avoid stepping out of his comfort zone, soon joined, motivated by the maturity and appeal they bring as Black men in the world of spirits.

Crafted with corn, rye, and malted barley, Sable Bourbon has complex notes of burnt sugar, mocha, and fudge. The team unanimously selected everything from the flavor profile to the bottle design and the name—which Perrineau notes connotes elegance and “Black and classy.”

For Diggs, who joked about his evolution from Zima vodka to fine bourbon, Sable resonates with a sense of growth and nostalgia tied to the characters they’ve embodied. “It feels aspirational, upscale, but accessible — just like The Best Man,” Lee added, emphasizing that their fans will connect with Sable just as they’ve connected with the series over the years.

The launch arrives alongside the 25th anniversary of The Best Man, and, fittingly, the actors reunited for the Sable promotional shoot. They enlisted stylist J. Bolin to perfect their look, and Perrineau shared, “It’s the first time I felt cool as f–k.” For Lee, Sable is a continuation of their journey, as he hints at new storytelling projects on the horizon. Perrineau humorously adds that the team might just “get Malcolm drunk” on Sable to convince him to craft another sequel.  “This is our next chapter.”
