Crackdown on Street Racing Takeovers: Durham Police Arrest Nine in Car Club Sting

DURHAM, NC – A weekend operation targeting illegal car meetups and street racing takeover activity in Durham resulted in nine arrests and multiple charges, according to the Durham Police Department.

Joint Effort to Deter Dangerous Driving

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the Durham Police Department collaborated with the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to conduct a targeted traffic enforcement operation. The goal was to disrupt reckless driving, speed racing, and other traffic-related offenses commonly associated with large, unauthorized car gatherings.

Authorities conducted multiple focused traffic stops throughout the evening. The following charges were issued as a result of the operation:

  • Driving While License Revoked – 1
  • Careless and Reckless Driving – 2
  • Speed Racing – 1
  • No Operator’s License – 4
  • Open Container – 2
  • Tint Violation – 1
  • Providing False Info to Law Enforcement – 1
  • Outstanding Warrant (Assault with a Deadly Weapon) – 1
  • Hit and Run – 2
  • Failure to Maintain Lane – 1
  • Registration Violation – 1

Durham Police officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to curbing disruptive car club meetups and illegal street racing that pose serious risks to the public. The department encourages residents to report suspicious or unsafe activity.
